How a healing circle helped Amani find her voice

Amani arrived in Kampala in 2022. For the first two years she said almost nothing about what she had left behind, not to neighbours and not to the people she shared a room with.
A friend brought her to a Tuesday session in Ntinda. She sat through the first four without speaking. Nobody asked her to.
The fifth week
In the fifth week another woman described a night that sounded like one of Amani’s own. That was the week she spoke.
I thought I was carrying something nobody else could understand. I was wrong about that.
Six months later Amani co-facilitates the circle. She keeps the same rule she was given: no one has to say anything.
